Our school formed links in 2006 with a school in the village of Sereolipi in Kenya when we raised money towards a bore hole to provide much needed fresh water. Children at the school now have access to fresh water and the school is thriving. As a primary school the education is free and more and more families now send both boys and girls to school. Unfortunately the move to high school is impossible for many families as parents are required to pay and many are too poor. Education has a much higher profile than in the past, however, and children recognise it as a long term benefit to their lives. Burlington C.E. school has therefore decided to continue our links with Sereolipi by raising money towards the sponsorship of a young person due to transfer to high school.
Thomas, one of the teachers in the school, came over to England in August for a month and Mrs. Ketchell and Mrs. Bath were privileged to meet him. He will be sending details of the young person we will be sponsoring and our first fund raiser will be the collection after the harvest festival service on 12th October.
