An enriched curriculm
Burlington CE School we are developing a more creative curriculum in the belief that if children enjoy their learning they will achieve more.
Some of our enrichment activities during 2007 to 2008 include the following.
After school/lunchtime clubs.
We offer a wide variety of after school and lunch time clubs involving all the children. These clubs are run by staff, parents, members of the local community and specialists.
This year we have been able to offer the following:
Football, chess, art, cooking, gym, tennis, multi skills (PE), dance, choir, maths, playleader scheme (older pupils lead play sessions with younger pupils) cycling and Tuesday Club.
Most clubs are free to the children with charges only made when the school has bought in the skills of a specialist.
We regularly ask the children what clubs they would like and, when feasible, arrange them accordingly.
Some of our girls were a little disappointed when we were not able to accommodate their wish for stables and a horse riding club! Similarly the children are still waiting for the development of an outside swimming pool.
We are planning to extend opportunities for our children to include basket ball and netball in the autumn term of 2008.
If you would like to run or help to run an after school club please contact the school office.
Activities during school day.
The Governing Body actively supports our policy of enriching the curriculum by arranging a wide range of activities during the school day.
In addition to our curriculum this year our children have enjoyed the following:

Visits
All children love going out of school on educational visits, from our youngest pupils’ annual blackberry picking day to our oldest pupils’ annual SATS-ARE-OVER day of games, picnics and ice-cream at the local community field.
Visits this year include a theatre visit to see "Hamlet", a visit to Wallabarrow farm, Brantwood, (home of John Ruskin), a guided walk across Foxfield mosses with a local herbalist, a guided walk in fields adjacent to school led by Jenny, daughter of local herbalist, a whole school day of outdoor activities at Kepplewray, several visits to our local church to take part in services and a whole school outing on the Little Ratty.
I am ever grateful to our parents who help with various aspects of our enriched curriculum from running clubs to transporting children. Thank you.
